Camp Lejeune, North Carolina - LtCol Lively was commissioned in December 1996. Upon graduation from the Infantry Officer's Course he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines as a Weapons Platoon Commander and then Commanding Officer, Headquarters and Service Company. During this tour, LtCol Lively deployed twice to Okinawa, Japan with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. From 2001 to 2004 LtCol Lively was assigned to 1st Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Company where he served as platoon commander, operations officer, executive officer and commanding officer. During this tour, he deployed to Bahrain in support of Commander Fifth Fleet/USNAVCENT and conducted security operations in Egypt following the 9/11 attacks. LtCol Lively graduated from the Expeditionary Warfare School in 2005 and was assigned to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines as Commanding Officer, Headquarters and Service Company. During this tour he deployed to Al Karmah, Iraq from July 2005 to February 2006. Following that deployment he returned to Iraq and served in Ramadi from September 2006 to September 2007 as a Military Transition Team leader and combat advisor to the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division. Upon return from deployment, LtCol Lively was assigned from January to December 2008 as a Congressional Fellow to the U.S. House of Representatives. He was then assigned from January 2009 to May 2011 as an instructor at the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS). Following his tour at EWS he attended the French War College. In June of 2013 LtCol Lively was assigned as the Operations Officer, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. He deployed from July to December 2013 to Moron, Spain as the Operations Officer for Special Purpose MAGTF - Crisis Response. LtCol Lively and his wife Ariel have one daughter Evelyn.
