Colonel Jeffrey R. Kenney Commanding Officer, 6th Marine Regiment

A native of Plymouth, Michigan, Colonel Kenney graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned in 1996. Colonel Kenney completed The Basic School in July 1996 and subsequently the Infantry Officer Course.  He reported to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines and served as a Platoon Commander, Company K and 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, Weapons Company.  During this tour, Colonel Kenney completed two deployments  to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program. 

In August of 1999, Colonel Kenney reported to The Basic School where he served as an Instructor, Staff Platoon Commander, and Company Executive Officer. In December of 2001, Colonel Kenney was assigned to the Infantry Officer Course and held billets as Instructor and Group Advisor.

In March of 2003, Colonel Kenney reported for duty with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines.   He led Company G in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II in Ar Ramadi, Iraq before being assigned as the Battalion Operations Officer in June of 2005.  As the BLT’s Operations Officer he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  During this deployment, the MEU conducted a Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief mission in the Philippines.

In June of 2006, Colonel Kenney departed from the Pacific and reported to Recruiting Station Harrisburg for duty as the Commanding Officer. In June of 2009, he reported to the Marine Corps Command and Staff College followed by the School of Advanced Warfighting.  Upon completion of the School of Advanced Warfighting, he reported to the 2nd Marine Division where he deployed to Afghanistan  in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as an operational planner. 

In April of 2012, Colonel Kenney took command of 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines.  In March of 2013, he deployed with the battalion to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.   Following command, he graduated from the National War College then served on the Joint Staff for two years as a Presidential Strike Advisor and Assistant Deputy Director for Operations. 

In July of 2017, Colonel Kenney was assigned to the School of Advanced Warfighting for duty as the Deputy Director.  In June of 2018, Colonel Kenney reported to the Marine Corps Recruiting Command for duty as the Director of National Operations. 

His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (2) with Combat V, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), and Combat Action Ribbon. Colonel Kenney is married to the former Ms. Anne Zachary of Plymouth, Michigan.  They have three children Killian, Callahan, and Delaney.
