Commanding Officer, 6th Marines
Colonel Neil R. Berry

Colonel Berry is a native of Lovingston, Virginia, and is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a BA in History. 

Colonel Berry enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1996, and was commissioned via the U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidates Course in 2001.   

As an enlisted Marine, he served with Co C, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Lynchburg, Va.

As a company grade officer, his operational assignments include Rifle Platoon Commander, 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, and Weapons Company Executive Officer, 2d Battalion, 3d Marines (OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH - Persian Gulf, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM - Afghanistan); Company Commander (MECH Company) Battalion Landing Team 2/6 (26 MEU); Weapons Company Commander, 2d Battalion, 6th Marines (OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM - Afghanistan).  

As a field grade officer, his operational assignments include Operations Officer, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines (Unit Deployment Program - Okinawa, Japan); Operations Officer, 3d Marine Regiment; Executive Officer, 6th Marine Regiment; Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion, 8th Marines (Marine Rotational Force - Europe and Unit Deployment Program - Okinawa, Japan) ; Operations Officer, II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), Expeditionary Operations Training Group (EOTG); Assistant Officer-in-Charge II MEF EOTG; and Assistant Chief of Staff G-7 / Officer-in-Charge II MEF EOTG. 

His supporting establishment assignments include Warfighting Instructor, Staff Platoon Commander (SPC), and Infantry Officer Course Instructor, The Basic School (TBS); Infantry Battalion Team West Assistant Officer-in-Charge and Officer-in-Charge, Tactical Training Exercise Control Group (TTECG), Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), Twentynine Palms, California.  

Colonel Berry's military and civilian education include: The Basic School, Expeditionary Warfare School (Distance Education); Marine Corps Command and Staff College (Distance Education); Top-Level school at the Air War College (Distance Education); a BA in History from Virginia Tech; and an MS in Executive Leadership from Liberty University. 

Colonel Berry's personal awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal with 'V' device, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

He is married to the former Charlotte M. Anthony of Stuart, Virginia and has two children, Isabela and Josh.
