Lieutenant Colonel Dennis A Dunbar is a native of Monmouth, New Jersey and enlisted in the Marine Corps reserves in 2000. LtCol Dunbar graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island in September 2000 and then served with 6th Motor Transportation Battalion in New Jersey.
LtCol Dunbar attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School and the United States Naval Academy earning a B.S. in Quantitative Economics before receiving his commission in May 2007. After commissioning, he attended Basic Officer Course 5-07 and Infantry Officer’s Course 2-08.
In April 2008, LtCol Dunbar reported to 3d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, to served as a rifle platoon commander and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. From June of 2009 to April 2010, LtCol Dunbar served as Company Commander, Company I. In April 2010, LtCol Dunbar served as the Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander, Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/8, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and deployed to the Upper Gereshk Valley, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
LtCol Dunbar transferred to The Basic School in June 2011 and served as a Military Operations in Urban Terrain Package Primary, Staff Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Instructor Education Program Primary.
In July 2014, LtCol Dunbar transferred to Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, Virginia. Upon Graduation from EWS, LtCol Dunbar reported to 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment, to serve as the Company Commander for the Raiders of Golf Company and deploy to Okinawa. During this deployment, Golf Company conducted training in Okinawa, the Philippine Archipelago, mainland Japan, and the Republic of South Korea. Upon return from the deployment, LtCol Dunbar was reassigned to the Operations Section as the Operations Officer and deployed to Europe in support of the Black Sea Rotational Force/Marine Rotational Force – Europe.
In June 2018 LtCol Dunbar assumed command of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Raleigh, North Carolina.
Following a tour at Recruiting Station Raleigh, LtCol Dunbar transferred to Quantico to attend Marine Corps Command and Staff College. LtCol Dunbar earned his Masters of Military Studies while completing the Simulating War: Designing and Developing Educational Wargames Gray Scholars Program. Following completion of Command and Staff, LtCol Dunbar attend the School of Advanced Warfighting and earned a Masters of Operational Studies.
Upon graduation, LtCol Dunbar reported to the G-5, III Marine Expeditionary Force, to serve as the Northeast Asia Plans Officer and the Director of Deliberate Plans.
Currently, LtCol Dunbar is serving as the Executive Officer of 6th Marine Regiment.
