Executive Officer, 6th Marines
Lieutenant Colonel Chad R. Matzelle

Lieutenant Colonel Matzelle was born and raised in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania.  Following completion of high school, he attended Cabrini College where he earned his B.S. in Computer Information Science.  Upon graduation in May 2005, he worked at Traffic.com as a Quality Assurance Engineer.  In December 2006, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps through the Marine Corps Officer Candidates Course (OCC) commissioning program.
 
Upon graduation from The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, Lieutenant Matzelle was assigned to 2d Battalion, 9th Marines where he served as a Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander.  During this tour, Lieutenant Matzelle deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
 
Following his first tour in the operating forces, Captain Matzelle received orders to Officer Candidates School where he served as Testing and Evaluation Officer, Academics Instructor, OCC Platoon Commander, and Tactics Platoon Commander.
 
In July 2014, Captain Matzelle attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia.
 
In May 2015, Captain Matzelle was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines where he served as Headquarters and Service and Bravo Company Commander.  During this tour, he deployed with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit onboard the USS San Antonio.
 
In May 2017, Major Matzelle was selected to serve as the Aide to the 76th Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV).  Upon completion of his tour in the SECNAV's office, he served as a Watch Officer in the Marine Corps Operation Center.
 
From July 2019 - July 2020, Major Matzelle attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia.
 
In June 2020, Major Matzelle returned to 2d Marine Division where he served as Future Operations Officer, 2d Marine Regiment, and Executive Officer, 3d Battalion, 2d Marines.  During this tour, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan, in support of Unit Deployment Program 22.1.
 
In December 2022, Lieutenant Colonel Matzelle assumed the duties as the Current Operations Officer in 2d Marine Division's G-3.  In May 2023, he was reassigned as the Executive Officer for 6th Marine Regiment, where he is currently serving.
 
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award, 1 combat "V"), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Matzelle is married and his wife and him have three children.
