Biography
Commanding Officer, 6th Marines
Colonel Gregory P. Gordon

A native of Nashville TN, Colonel Gordon served as an enlisted infantryman in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1995-1998 before receiving a commission in 1998. 

Upon graduation from the Infantry Officer's Course he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines as a Platoon Commander, Weapons Platoon Commander, and Company Executive Officer.  During this tour, Colonel Gordon deployed twice to Okinawa, Japan with the Unit Deployment Program and participated in training and operations throughout the Pacific. 

Following his first tour in the operating forces, Colonel Gordon was assigned to 2d Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Company where he served as Platoon Commander, Boarding Officer, and Executive Officer.  During this tour, he deployed in support of Commander Sixth Fleet, US Naval Region Europe and participated in training and operations throughout Europe and Africa. 

Colonel Gordon was then assigned to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines as Weapons Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer.   During this tour he completed multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and participated in combat operations in Western Al Anbar Province. 

Colonel Gordon was then assigned as the Inspector-Instructor for Lima Company, 3d Battalion, 24th Marines where he completed a deployment as an embedded combat advisor to the Iraqi Army and participated in combat operations in Mosul and Ninevah Province. 

Colonel Gordon was then assigned as the Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Recruiting Station St Louis.  Following his successful recruiting tour he was assigned to duties as the Executive Officer 2d Battalion, 6th Marines. In this capacity he completed a deployment with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, conducting combat operations in Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. 

Colonel Gordon was then assigned duties as the Current Operations Officer for 2d Marine Division where he was responsible for the planning and execution of a multitude of division level operations and training. He then served as the  Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, where he deployed in support of the Black Sea Rotational Force and Marine Rotational Force Europe, establishing the first rotational force footprint above the Arctic Circle, and was responsible for deploying forces in support of operations in Syria and Africa. He then commanded Headquarters Battalion, Second Marine Division. 

Following command he attended the Eisenhower School for National Resource Strategy then served at Headquarters Marine Corps, Manpower Management, Officer Assignments Branch. 

He and his wife Tara have three children.
