Master Gunnery Sergeant David A. Romero

Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero enlisted in the Marine Corps on 10 August 2004, and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC. Upon completion of recruit training in November 2004 he attended Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Geiger, NC. He graduated from the School of Infantry East in February 2005 as a Mortarman (0341). Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero reported to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, Golf Company at Camp Lejeune, NC, where he performed his duties as a Mortarman. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) from July 2005 to February 2006. From January 2007 to July 2007, Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero deployed as a Squad Leader with BLT 2/2, 26th MEU aboard the USS Bataan. 

In April 2008, Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant and subsequently deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Section Leader with 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, Golf Company. During this deployment, he was responsible for the Personal Security Detail (PSD) platoon and conducted joint operations with the U.S Army and the Iraqi Army. 
 
In February of 2009, he reported to Recruiting School at MCRD San Diego. Upon graduation in March of 2009, he reported to 1st Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station New York. During his time on recruiting duty, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and successfully completed his tour. 
 
In February of 2012, Master Gunnery Sergeant reported to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, Weapons Company, Combined Anti-Armor Team (CAAT). From September 2012 to April 2013, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as Section Leader for CAAT 1. During this deployment, Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero participated in multiple operations such as Operation New Hope, Operation Milad and Operation Bullseye where he received his valor award. Upon returning from deployment, he assumed his billet as Platoon Sergeant for 3rd Platoon, Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. During his time as a Platoon Sergeant in September 2014, he Romero deployed to Kuwait in Support of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) and was the Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) Commander. During this deployment in November 2014, he was selected to take himself and a squad from his rifle platoon to support the Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) Team 1323. This joint operation was conducted in Al Asad Iraq for a six-month duration. During this time, Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero was responsible for creating the defensive plan for the Forward Operation Base (FOB). In addition, he participated in training the Iraqi local forces to take back the ISIS stronghold Al Baghdadi. 
 
In June of 2015, Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero attended Marine Corps Combat Instructor Course, Camp Geiger NC. He assumed his position as a Platoon Sergeant with Company D Infantry Training Battalion. He was responsible for training over 400-entry level Marines on 1000-2000 Infantry level tasks. In 2017, he became the Chief Instructor for the 0341 Weapons Instructor Group. During his time as a Chief, he revamped the 0341 curriculum to improve the learning experience and preparation for all entry-level students attending the 0341 Mortarman course. In February 2018, Master Gunnery Sergeant Romero assumed the role of Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company B, Infantry Training Battalion.  
 
In July of 2018, he took charge as a Marine Advisor for 3rd Company 17th Battalion, Presidential Guard Reconnaissance Command, located in United Arab Emirates. During this time, he trained his company at a division-level training exercise, Steel Knight, in Twenty-nine Palms, CA. He additionally took the lead for conducting multiple shooting packages to enhance the marksmanship of the Emirates. 
 
In August 2019, he reported as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Apache Co., 1st Battalion 6th Marines in Camp Lejeune NC. He took his company through ITX, MWX and deployed to Okinawa, Japan for the UDP. Upon returning, he was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant and subsequently became the Battalion Operations Chief for V16. During his time as Operations Chief, he led operations for Regiment field exercise, integration with Seal Team 2 aboard USS Arlington, and joint bilateral training with the Ukrainian Military. Upon completion of his duties at 1st Battalion 6th Marines Operations Chief, MGySgt Romero assume his duties at Expeditionary Operations Training Group (EOTG) as the Amphibious Raids Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge. During his time at EOTG.
 
MGySgt Romero planned and coordinated the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) pre-deployment training plan. He evaluated the 26th MEU command and control during the Raids Course, MEUEX I, II and III. MGySgt Romero was selected to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant during his short time at EOTG. In April 2023, he reported to 1st Battalion 8th Marines, 6th Marine Regiment as the Operations Chief.
