Master Gunnery Sergeant Tyler A. Hunsinger Operations Chief, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines

Master Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger was born in Ocala, Florida. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 14 January 1997, and attended recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion, he received training at the School of Infantry, at Camp Geiger, North Carolina where he received the MOS 0331 Machine Gunner. Following the School of Infantry, Private Hunsinger reported to Marine Corps Security Forces Battalion, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia where he attended the Basic Security Guard School. Upon completion Private Hunsinger was ordered to report to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naval Submarine Base Bangor, Washington. While assigned to First Platoon he was promoted to the ranks of Private First Class and Lance Corporal as he stood watch as a basic security guard, Corporal of the Guard, and Sergeant of the Guard. In August 1999, Lance Corporal Hunsinger received orders to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, in Twentynine Palms, California. As a member of Alpha Companies Weapons Platoon, Lance Corporal Hunsinger was promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant while he served in the billets of Machinegun Squad Leader, Section Leader and Weapons Platoon Sergeant. During his time with the battalion, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, he participated in two Unit Deployment Program deployments to Okinawa, Japan and exercise Cobra Gold in Thailand. In October 2002, Sergeant Hunsinger received orders from the Headquarters Recruiting Screening Team (HRST) to Recruiters School in San Diego, California. Upon graduation, Sergeant Hunsinger received orders to Recruiting Station Orlando, Florida where he was an enlisted recruiter in Port Richey, Florida. Proving himself on the streets, Sergeant Hunsinger was selected to fill the role of Recruiting Station Orlando Military Enlistment Processing Station Liaison. In October 2005, Sergeant Hunsinger was selected for the rank of Staff Sergeant and received orders to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, in Twentynine Palms, California. Staff Sergeant Hunsinger was assigned to Weapons Company, Combined Anti-Armor Team II Platoon where he served as Section Leader and Platoon Sergeant. After a successful combat deployment to Al Anbar Province, Iraq, Staff Sergeant Hunsinger was assigned to India Company where he served as a Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant on a second combat deployment to Al Anbar Province, Iraq. In November 2008 Staff Sergeant Hunsinger was selected for the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and received orders to II MEF, Special Operations Training Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While assigned to the Amphibious Raids Branch, Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger served as the Security Element Chief Instructor, Combat Rubber Reconnaissance Craft Course Chief Instructor, and the Over the Horizon Maritime Navigation Course Chief Instructor. In July 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger received orders to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While serving as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Lima Company he was deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. After a successful combat tour Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger was assigned to serve as the Battalion Assistant Operations Chief. In July 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger received orders to Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group in Twentynine Palms, California. While assigned to the Instructor Group, Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger served as Faculty Advisor, Unit Readiness Program primary instructor, Marine Corps Planning Process primary instructor and Combat Operations Center primary instructor. In addition, Gunnery Sergeant held the collateral duties as the Assistant Security Manager, Substance Abuse Counseling Officer, Classified Material Control Center SNCOIC and was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant. In July 2016, Master Sergeant Hunsinger received orders to 2d Battalion, 3d Marines, where he served as Weapons Company Operations Chief. During his tour the Battalion participated in one Forward Deployed Forces deployment to Okinawa, Japan. In September 2017, Master Sergeant Hunsinger received orders to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines where he served as the Battalion Operations Chief. During his tour with the Battalion he participated in one Forward Deployed Forces deployment to Okinawa. The Battalion participated in Exercise Cobra Gold in Thailand and Exercise SsangYong in South Korea. In September 2018, Master Sergeant Hunsinger received orders to the School of Infantry-East where he served as the Battalion Operations Chief for Infantry Training Battalion and Marine Combat Training Battalion and was promoted to his current rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. In January 2020, Master Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger received orders to his current unit, 3d Battalion, 6th Marines, where he serves as the Battalion Operations Chief. Master Sergeant Hunsinger is married to the former Melinda Gaden. They have two children, Cheyenne and Tyler Jr. Master Gunnery Sergeant Hunsinger's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
