Lieutenant Colonel D. J. Green is a native of Terre Haute, Indiana and was commissioned on 22 May 2009 after graduating from the United States Naval Academy with a B.S. in English.
After graduating The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course at Quantico, VA, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California. From January 2011 to May 2012, he served as CAAT Platoon Commander, Weapons Company, V14. He deployed to Okinawa as part of BLT 1/4 with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. From May 2012 to May 2014, he served as Battalion Assistant Operations Officer and Weapons Company XO. He deployed as part of BLT 1/4 with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit from August 2013 to May 2014.
He reported to Marine Detachment United States Naval Academy in June 2014 and completed his assigned Master of Arts program at George Washington University in May 2015. From June 2015 to June 2017, he served as the 29th Company Officer at USNA.
Captain Green reported to the 2d Battalion, 8th Marines in June 2017. From June 2017 to October 2018, Captain Green served as Echo Company Commander and deployed to Okinawa and 4th Marine Regiment as part of UDP 18-1.
In October 2018, Captain Green reported to Kilo Company, 3d Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment. He was promoted to the rank of Major in March 2019. From October 2018 to July 2021, Major Green served as the site commander and Inspector-Instructor for Kilo Company, 3d Bn, 25th Marines.
Major Green reported to the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA in July 2021. Major Green completed his course of study and graduated as a distinguished graduate in June 2022.
In June 2022, Major Green joined 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion as the battalion’s executive officer. During this tour he was responsible for the staff functions of the battalion in support of deploying Marine Raider Support Teams in support of MARSOC operations across the globe. He was promoted to his current rank of Lieutenant Colonel in February 2024.
In June 2024, LtCol Green reported to 2D Marine Expeditionary Brigade as the Operations Officer. In November 2024 and August 2025, LtCol Green deployed to Sixth Fleet as part of Task Force 61.2. From October 2025 to March 2026, LtCol Green supported TF 48 operations in the SOUTHCOM and Fourth Fleet areas of responsibility.
Lieutenant Colonel Green holds a Bachelor's of Science in English from the United States Naval Academy, a Master's of Arts in Leadership Education and Development from George Washington University, and a Masters of Military Studies from Marine Corps University.
His personal Awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and (4) Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
On 16 April 2026, LtCol Green assumed command of 1st Battalion, 6th Marines.
