A native of Edina, MO, Lieutenant Colonel Stansberry attended the University of Missouri-Columbia from August 1997 to May 2001 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program. He attended Officer Candidate School in the summer of 2000, and one year later in May 2001, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Banking and received his commission as an Officer in the United States Marines Corps.
Second Lieutenant Stansberry reported to The Basic School (TBS) in June 2001. After successful completion of TBS, he reported to Infantry Officers Course (IOC) in Quantico, VA. Upon completion of IOC, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment as a rifle platoon commander and deployed to Okinawa until September 2003. Second Lieutenant Stansberry was promoted to First Lieutenant in May 2003, and assigned as a weapons platoon commander in October 2003.
In January 2004, First Lieutenant Stansberry was re-assigned to Weapons Company as the platoon commander for Combined Anti-armor Team II (CAAT) and deployed to Okinawa as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in July 2004. In September 2004, First Lieutenant Stansberry deployed to Iraq with the 31st MEU and returned to CONUS in the summer of 2005.
First Lieutenant Stansberry reported to Region 6 (Eastern Africa), Marine Corps Embassy Security Group (MCESG) in July 2005 where he served as the operations officer. He was promoted to Captain in November 2005 and assumed the duties as the executive officer in July 2006. Captain Stansberry returned to CONUS in June 2008 and attended Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA.
Following EWS in May 2009, Captain Stansberry reported to 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as company commander, Headquarters and Service Company.
In January 2010, Captain Stansberry was transferred to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines and served as the company commander, Echo Company. He deployed to Afghanistan in May 2010, and following the deployment was re-assigned as the operations officer for 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in March 2011. He later deployed to Afghanistan in November 2011, and was promoted to Major in February 2012.
Major Stansberry reported to Des Moines, Iowa in July 2012 where he served as the commanding officer for Recruiting Station Des Moines. Following recruiting duty in June 2015, he attended the Army’s Command and General Staff Officers College in Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Major Stansberry was transferred to 3d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in July 2016 for duty as the executive officer. He deployed with BLT 3/6 as part of the 24th MEU in February 2017. After returning from the MEU deployment, Major Stansberry reported to Second Marine Division as the Assistant Chief of Staff G-10 (Force Resilience Directorate). Major Stansberry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in June 2018, and assumed his current duties as the commanding officer of 2d Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment.
