Mission

The mission of 2d Battalion, 9th Marines is to locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, or repel the enemy’s assault by fire and close combat.

A battalion in the Marine Corps is led by the Battalion Commander, usually a Lieutenant Colonel, who in turn is supported by his staff and the Battalion Sergeant Major. A Battalion usually consists of 3-5 companies, with a total of 900 to 1,200 Marines. Currently more than 1,000 Marines and Sailors led by Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas E. Davis and supported by Major Brenton L. Jones and Sergeant Major Darrell L. Carver, of 2d Battalion, 9th Marines. The Battalion is comprised of Headquarters & Service (H&S) Company, Weapons Company and three infantry (Line) Companies: Echo, Fox, and Golf.
