Sergeant Major Anthony James Loftus was born in Rochester, Minnesota on 14 April 1980. He enlisted in the Marine Corps September 1998 and attended recruit training at MCRD, San Diego, CA. Upon graduation, he reported to Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA, for Marine Combat Training. Upon completion Private Loftus reported to Marine Corps Engineer School, Court House Bay, Camp Lejeune, NC and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
In May 1999, Lance Corporal Loftus received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd FSSG, Okinawa, Japan. Upon completion of his tour he was assigned to the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st FSSG, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal.
In 2001, he was transferred to the 13th MEU and deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Returning back to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Sergeant Loftus deployed in 2003 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In January 2004, Staff Sergeant Loftus again deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
In January 2005, Staff Sergeant Loftus attended Drill Instructor School MCRD, San Diego, where he graduated as the Distinguished Honor Graduate and was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion. Staff Sergeant Loftus was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was named Marine Corps Drill Instructor of the year for 2006. In June 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Loftus was transferred to the Instructor Staff, Drill Instructor School MCRD San Diego.
In October 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Loftus received orders to 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. In May 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Loftus deployed as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Military Transition Team 0700 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
In December 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Loftus was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and subsequently received orders to K Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines for assignment as Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant. In October of 2012, First Sergeant Loftus was selected to attend the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy where he graduated as the Distinguished Honor Graduate. In April 2013, First Sergeant Loftus received orders to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion. In July of 2014, First Sergeant Loftus deployed with Marine Special Operations Company Delta and in November 2014 was selected to the rank Sergeant Major.
Upon return from deployment he received orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15. In February 2017, Sergeant Major Loftus received orders to 1st Marine Raider Battalion as the Battalion Sergeant Major and deployed with SOTF-N in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. In October of 2018 he was assigned to his current position as the 6th Marine Regiment Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Loftus’ personal awards consist of a Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
