Sergeant Major, 6th Marines
Sergeant Major Marcus D. Reese

Sergeant Major Reese was born and raised in Hanceville, Alabama. After graduating high school in May 2000, he reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island for recruit training. He attended Marine Combat Training and Marine Corps Combat Engineer School earning the MOS of Combat Engineer (1371).

From June 2001 to June 2005, Sergeant Major Reese was assigned to Engineer Detachment, Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Service Support Group-11, 11th MEU. During this period of time he deployed three times in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. He conducted numerous combat operations and training evolution.

In July 2005, Sergeant Reese reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. He served as a drill instructor, senior drill instructor, and chief drill instructor. In January 2007, Sergeant Reese was meritoriously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant. In April 2009, Staff Sergeant Reese received orders to Company A, 2d Combat Engineer Battalion, 2d Marine Division where he served as a platoon sergeant and company gunnery sergeant. As a platoon sergeant, Staff Sergeant Reese deployed to Afghanistan with 2d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment. Upon promotion to gunnery sergeant, he served and deployed as the company gunnery sergeant to Afghanistan in support of Regimental Combat Team-1 (RCT-1).

In March 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Reese reported for duty at the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy Okinawa where he served as the chief faculty advisor for the Sergeants Course and Advanced Course. He was also the selected as the 2012 Faculty Advisor of the Year. In January 2014, First Sergeant Reese reported to Company B, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific - Marine Corps Base Camp Butler where he served as the Company First Sergeant.

In March 2016, First Sergeant Reese reported to Marine Special Operations Company K, 3d Marine Raider Battalion, United States Marine Corps Forces - Special Operation Command. He deployed to the Special Operations Command Africa area of responsibility as the Senior Enlisted Leader of Special Operations Command and Control Element- Sahel and Maghreb.

In February 2019, Sergeant Major Reese reported to 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Depot San Diego where he served until September 2021. SgtMaj Reese then transferred back to Marine Forces Special Operations Command to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion until June 2023. He currently serves the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Belleau Wood Marines of the Fightin' Sixth Marine Regiment.

Sergeant Major Reese is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program and other numerous professional military education courses. He holds a BA in Business Management and a MS in Organizational Leadership. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
